On September 5th, Sephine celebrated her 5th birthday. Her "Golden Birthday". Simply defined, this birthday takes place in the year in which you turn the age of the date when your were born. 5 on the 5th!
We celebrated her birthday a few days previous with a very well received Open House to celebrate the birthday and the end of Chemotherapy.
On September 13th, she had her MRI and CTScan. On September 15th her Bone Scan. On Friday, September 16th we got the news that Sephine's scans all came back normal. Her MRI showed the same size, if not smaller scar tissue in the left side of her face and the tumor on her neck still completely gone.
We have not been able to stop smiling. Just today I received a call to set up her surgery to remove her port and feeding tube. It is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd.
It feels so amazing and strange to experience this chapter coming to a close. Her life, an endless gift. She, her wonderful sisters, Doug, myself, our extended families and all our friends have been able to experience a thrilling, scary and moving journey that has left us all in a continued state of wonder and a feeling that God has given all of us a huge gift in this life we have been given to live. And to remember to live it with our whole heart!!
Sephine has been an example, a warrior, a champion, a friend, a source of love and inspiration to so many. She has shown us what it is like to know that life can be so positive and immensely breathtaking. I know with her in our lives, for however long we have her, she will always be this way.
One of my favorite bands, Coldplay, just released a new song called "Paradise". It's an emotional inspiration of a song. My favorite line, so pertinent to what our daughter has gone through, reflects her disposition...
"And so lying underneath those stormy skies, She'd say, 'oh, I know the sun must set to rise ' "
