"Looks can be deceiving-it's eating that's believing" -James Thurber
About two weeks ago Sephine started eating again. Really eating. Eating to the point where she has not needed to be fed nutrition through her g-tube on a daily basis.
The after effects of radiation consisted of a solid two months of not eating through her mouth at all. It was heartbreaking.
This day photographed she was eating apples and pretzels...her first "craving" after those two long months.
It took composure for me to cut the apple and hand her the pretzels without tears.
It has made me realize that as parents we take for granted so many things. We are so distracted "doing" parenting that we forget about "being" parents. We miss out on so many aspects and details that are important. “While we teach our children about life, they teach us what life is all about."
We thank God for healing Sephine's mouth that she may taste again, swallow again, eat again. We are taking pleasure in these things that we can so easily take for granted...the eating, the laughter, the hugs, the smiles, the sweetness, the child.
