Monday, August 15th was Sephine's last chemotherapy treatment! The whole family went up for the experience, for the hugs, for the conclusion to this chapter in her journey.
We left early in the morning. It was pouring rain. Sephine looked out her car window as we pulled out of the driveway and she saw a baby grasshopper on the outside of her car window. She LOVES insects so when she pointed out how a cute baby green grasshopper was on her window we didn't think too much of it. To our surprise that little grasshopper stayed on her car window the whole drive. I'm not quite sure how he did it, with the rain pouring down on the car the whole drive.
The day itself was surreal. It seemed so strange to think that it had already been 41 weeks of Chemo. She did it!! And this Monday, September 5th is the first Monday she is off protocol...it is also her 5th birthday.
When we left and got back in the car after an 8 hour day at clinic, to our amazement that same grasshopper was sitting on the passenger side mirror of the car and traveled with us all the way home. We were intrigued by this little symbol of hope. "Grasshoppers can only jump forward....not backward, or sideways. So, when a grasshopper shows up he could be reaffirming that you are taking the right steps to move forward in your life..." Whether it was just coincidence, or God was using one of her favorite things to remind us that we should only move onward and ahead, it was a wonderful reminder of where our focus should be.
God has blessed us with our daughter. Sephine is amazing. Her journey has been very emotional, very heartwarming, very beautiful. We don't know what lies ahead for her. But we can only "hop" forward, and the best journey is the road less traveled, the unknown horizon.
